I'm bumping this post up as it was my first post here. I'm hoping to get some thoughts from other people as to some perfect moments they can remember from films which told the entire story in a moment or a few actions.

Please mention the name of the movie right off - so people can avoid spoilers if they've not seen the film.

William Goldman in his excellent book "Adventures in the Screentrade" talks about the first scene of Rocky in detail and I think in that he is capturing one of these kinds of moments.

This is the directorial debut by Shane Meadows, which he also wrote. Amongst a cast of unknowns there is Bob Hoskins, whose character tries to give the unemployed/no-prospects youth in his community some guidance. It's all of the hard-knocks/tough-love school.

Bob Hoskins has also taken a shining to the check-out girl at the corner store, and goes there every day, buying this and that but he doesn't have the courage to ask her out.

In one brilliant moment, she leaves a hand print on the glass counter top and Bob Hoskins, after she's turned away, gently places his hand over her hand print.

This moment, very brief, and with no word spoken, says it all about the general inability to touch and be touched that seems the problem in this community.

      cheers,

      Kim

I saw a movie recently that was average for the most part. And then suddenly, in the middle of it, there's this absolutely stunning scene.

For those who are willing to watch a movie for one scene (with some of the best acting I've seen in a while) check out the Peter O'Toole/Brad Pitt scene in TROY. It's amazing.
